Irvine, California (June 6, 2012) – Morinaga America, Inc., marketing and distribution channel for Hi-Chew in the U.S., will be the Los Angeles Convention Center’s training grounds at Anime Expo as it let’s would be Ninjas try to slice as many fruit as possible in one minute. The top two slicers will each walk home with a brand new 40-inch HDTV courtesy of Hi-Chew.
“We’ve done this in the past and it is a total hit,” said Clayton Perkins, marketing manager for Morinaga. “While there is always a steady flow of people coming by to get free Hi-Chew candy, having two games of Fruit Ninja simultaneously playing creates a crowd stopper. People just love it!”
Morinaga America, the America subsidiary of Morinaga & Co. Ltd., has seen great success attracting followers at Japanese shows like Anime Expo, and it expects to do the same this year. “It is kind of overwhelming at first,” said Clayton. “People will stand at the booth for nearly 30 minutes just to try their hand at getting a top score. The response has been quite amazing.”
As Morinaga America thought about repositioning Hi-Chew as a candy for active youth, the idea of having visitors slice up fruit came about quite naturally. “Hi-Chew is a fruity candy. So, it only makes sense that we have people slice fruit,” said Toshiya Yasuda, president of Morinaga America. “Employing such a great gaming concept was a no-brainer.”
